In
1969, community organizations serving persons with disabilities
came together and embraced the idea that we could do more
if we came together as one... from that shared belief was
born the Kansas Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (KARF).
From
that time on the members of KARF have been in the forefront
of change... educating communities... fighting discrimination...
mobilizing public and private resources for community based
services... working on the leading edge of reform.
We
have made a difference in our state and our nation... from
training and technical assistance for community based organizations
to our national efforts to make every public library in America
a resource center for the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We
have built constructive relationships with the state to implement
far-reaching improvements in service... and we have done it,
hand in hand, with the support of local government.
Through
the efforts of our members, we have established the agenda
for public action. More than a philosophy, the work of our
members has created a new concept of community, one which
incorporates interdependence, inclusion and fairness.
In
1996, KARF changed it's name to InterHab, The Resource Network
for Kansans with Disabilities. With this new name comes a
renewed commitment to growth.
